Jadavpur University is a public state funded research university with its main campus located at Jadavpur, Kolkata, West Bengal, India. It was established on 25 July in 1906 as Bengal Technical Institute and was converted into Jadavpur University on 24 December in 1955. As of 2024 NIRF rankings, Jadavpur University has been ranked 9th among universities, 12th among engineering institutes, and 17th overall in India. Also Nature Index ranked Jadavpur University in 1st among universities in India. The university has been recognized by UGC as an institute and accredited an "A+" grade by the National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC).
Having begun in the anti-colonial National Council of Education, Bengal (1906) to "attain self-reliance through the empowerment of youth by imparting the best of world knowledge, technical education, and awareness of social, cultural, political, economic realities of the state, the nation and the world" the university has progressively pushed new frontiers in science, technology, humanities and social science innovation and outreach; it has rendered research and policy assistance to state and national governments and international organizations, and conventional and non-conventional technological development for society at large, including established industries and disadvantaged groups, through innovation and adaptation.
